When we get a diagnosis of Keratoconus we often worry about corneal transplants as a treatment, with painful procedures and long recovery times. However these treatments are a thing of the past. Over the past 10 years there have been several treatments designed to stall, stabilize, and stop the progression of Keratoconus. With less pain and less recovery time than ever before.

Below you will find the top 3 treatment options for those suffering from Keratoconus:

Holcomb C3-R® or Collagen Cross-linking with Riboflavin is a popular treatment often used in combination with other treatments. This treatment has been known to stop the progression of Keratoconus, is non-invasive and takes only around 30 minutes to complete. The Holcomb C3-R® involves placing drops of Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) in the eyes and using a UV light to activate the medication. It continues to improve vision for anywhere from 2 weeks to months after the procedure has been done.

The Visian ICL is another treatment often used to treat Keratoconus. The Visian ICL is often used in combination with the Holcomb C3-R®. Which involves placement of a small insert placed behind the natural lens to help give the patient clearer vision. Similar to a contact lens this insert can be permanent and does not require any maintenance after it is in place. However the insert can be easily removed if needed. The procedure typically takes around 5-20 minutes, and is done in the doctors office.

INTACS a common treatment for Keratoconus helps strengthen the cornea and reduce the cones steepness to a more natural shape. INTACS are placed behind the cornea to regain the curves of the cornea it takes about 10 minutes in each eye and can be done in combination with Holcomb C3-R® .

Can double vision/ ghost images post PRK be resolved by VISIAN ICL?

it is unlikely that Visian ICL would correct ghost images post PRK. You may need a PRK enhancement, INTACS or RGP contacts to resolve the ghost images.
